Scientific career
Hariprasad Ranganathan earned his master’s degree in Energy Storage and Conversion Engineering from Jeonbuk National University (JBNU), South Korea, in 2020. As a Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) under the supervision of Prof. Dong Jin Yoo in the Department of Energy Storage and Conversion Engineering, his research focused on developing polymer electrolyte membranes for proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs).
In 2021, he was awarded the UNESCO Chair MATECSS Excellence Scholarship to pursue graduate research at the Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique (INRS), Canada, where he worked on designing and developing catalyst materials for fuel cells and batteries.
Since 2023, Hariprasad has been working as a Research Associate with Prof. Nikolay Kornienko at the University of Bonn, focusing on his doctoral research in catalyst and membrane electrode assembly (MEA) development for electrochemical energy conversion and storage. His work aims to advance both the development and mechanistic understanding of non-precious metal catalysts for sustainable electrochemical reactions, including oxygen reduction (ORR), nitrogen oxidation (N2OR), and carbon dioxide reduction (CO2RR). He is particularly motivated to explore the surface chemistry of these catalysts, with an emphasis on intermediate gas interactions and reactive gas adsorption–desorption processes.
