Scientific career

In 2023, Yang obtained his PhD in Chemistry from University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), under the supervision of Prof. Changzheng Wu and Prof. Yi Xie. His doctoral research focused on electronic structure control and oxygen reduction study of iron phthalocyanine complexes and their derivatives.

In 2024, he joined the University of Bonn as a postdoctoral researcher in the group of Prof. Kornienko, where he works on the development of metal phthalocyanine-based molecular catalysts for the activation and conversion of small molecules (e.g., CO₂, NO₃⁻) into value-added chemicals.

In 2025, Yang became an Argelander Fellow at the University of Bonn, focusing on sustainable synthesis of C–N and C–S bonds.

His research interests include molecular electrocatalysis, electrochemical CO₂/NO₃⁻ reduction, and electrochemical C–N/C–S bond formation, with a particular emphasis on gaining molecular-level insights into catalytic reaction mechanisms.
