Am Dienstag, den 8. Juli 2025, fand in HS2 eine inspirierende Veranstaltung unter dem Motto „Young Scientists Introduce Themselves“ statt – gefolgt von unserer traditionellen BBQ Summer Party.
Neben spannenden Vorträgen unserer Nachwuchswissenschaftler, darunter Luca Denkler (Decarboxylative Transformations of Aliphatic Carboxylic Acids), Michelle Mahler (Redox tuning of engineered heme protein active sites), Tom Frömbgen (Machine Learning in VCD Spectroscopy) und Timothy Schwartz (Controlling Reactivity with Ni-Group 13 Bimetallics), durften wir einen besonderen Gast begrüßen: Prof. Dr. Giovanni Appendino von der Universität Novara. In seinem Vortrag „Serendipity in the age of artificial intelligence: Are we missing something?“ beleuchtete Prof. Appendino eindrucksvoll, welche Rolle der Zufall – oder vielmehr die Offenheit für das Unerwartete – in der Chemie spielt, gerade in Zeiten der Künstlichen Intelligenz.
Im Anschluss nutzten alle Teilnehmenden die Gelegenheit, sich bei sommerlichem Wetter und leckerem BBQ weiter auszutauschen.

On Tuesday, July 8, 2025, an inspiring event took place in HS2 under the motto “Young Scientists Introduce Themselves” – followed by out traditional BBQ Summer Party.
In addition to exciting presentations by our young scientists, including Luca Denkler (Decarboxylative Transformations of Aliphatic Carboxylic Acids) Michelle Mahler (Redox tuning of engineered heme protein active sites) Tom Frömbgen (Machine Learning in VCD Spectroscopy) and Timothy Schwartz (Controlling Reactivity with Ni-Group 13 Bimetallics), we welcomed a special guest: Prof. Dr. Giovanni Appendino from the University of Novara. In his presentation "Serendipity in the age of artificial intelligence: Are we missing something?" Prof. Appendino impressively highlighted the role that chance – or rather openness to the unexpected – plays in chemistry, especially in the age of artificial intelligence.
Afterwards, all participants took the opportunity to continue their discussions in summery weather and over a delicious BBQ.
