Application and Registration

General information

The MSc programme Chemistry is a consecutive Master's programme. Therefore, it connects directly to the Bachelor's programme Chemie at the University of Bonn and builds on the knowledge and skills taught therein. Thus it is necessary for successful studying in the Master's programme that the contents of the Bachelor's programme studied by applicants extensively match those of the Bachelor's programme of the University of Bonn.

In respect thereof, the admission procedure serves above all the assessment of the eligibility of the applicants for the Master's programme Chemistry at the University of Bonn. According to the Higher Education Act of NRW, the only basis for the admission is the first professional qualification (generally the preceding Bachelor's degree). Additional qualifications may not be allowed for.

Requirements

Admission to the Master's programme Chemistry is bound to the following requirements:

  1. a qualified first professional degree (usually a BSc degree)
  2. proof of sufficient English language proficiency (min. B2 (CEFR))

The qualification of the preceding degree consists of the following characeristics:

  • average grade of the degree at least 2.9 (German system; grades from other systems will be converted by the "Bavarian formula")
  • successfully studied modules in the field "Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry" of at least 25 CP (German system; CPs from other systems will be converted)
  • successfully studied modules in the field "Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry" of at least 25 CP (German system; CPs from other systems will be converted)
  • successfully studied modules in the field "Physical and Theoretical Chemistry" of at least 25 CP (German system; CPs from other systems will be converted)

Graduates of the following programmes usually do not fulfil these requirements (3 x 25 CP):
BSc Pharmaceutical Sciences/Technology/...
BSc Chemical Engineering/Applied Chemistry
Please check thoroughly if an admission is possible prior to applying.
